UNESCO World Heritage Sites in India – Part 1

India is an ancient nation with rich monumental heritage. The famed architecturally ingenious monuments always merit a visit, as they are the living proof of India's authentic architectural history. UNESCO or United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization identify places which may include forest, mountain, lake, desert, monument, building or complex as a place of cultural or physical significance. By identifying a site as a heritage site, UNESCO puts the same on the global map increasing the tourism to that site. A site identified by UNESCO as a heritage site is also able to procure funds for the maintenance and development of the same. In India there are 28 places identified by the UNESCO as world heritage site.
