Gurudongmar Lake is amongst the most beautiful places in India. A must visit place. Gurudongmar is a place where you will come across Yaks grazing, herds of blue sheep and other high altitude animals commonly seen in Sikkim as well as Tibet. Gurudongmar Lake also spelled as Gurudogmar Lake is amongst the highest lakes in the world. It is situated at a height of 17,100 ft. Due to its altitude the lake area is extremely cold. The lake is situated in North Sikkim in India, but it is at a distance of just five kilometers from the China border. Due to its close proximity to China, the visitors to the lake are subject to strict checking by the military.
