Varicose comes from a Latin word which literally means twisted. Varicose veins are expanded, twined veins that are deep blue or purple in color.
Varicose veins are caused due to number of factors:
1. Hormonal changes in women during menopause or maternity
2. Obesity can increase the pressure on veins in the foot
3. Long hours of staying in a single position increases the pressure on certain veins as well as obstruct blood circulation
4. Excessive constipation
5. Hereditary factors
6. Ageing
